TIPS FOR EL PRELIMS

1) Highlight the points required in your Situational Writing

2) Remember to put "Dear Deah,..........Love, ___" if necessary.
All emails, notes, letters and postcards require them.

3) Reread your writing again to check for tenses.

4) Know who is the writer & who you are writing to.

5) For Composition, write in at least 4 paragraphs.

6) Use vocabulary or phrases to describe events, characters, emotions, etc.

7) Make the story interesting but do not write "Its a dream" at the end.

8) Reread your essay again to look for errors in tenses.

9) For EL paper 2, highlight the words to show u the tense & the word/s which shows u the subject. Your choice of verbs depends on the subject in the sentence.

10) Be familiar with punctuation. Know when to put inverted commas, exclamation & how direct speech always appears.

11) Try to know all the various rules like "1-to, 2-Cs...", words where it should be singular verb like "Somebody, No one, None of, Everything...", neither...nor (subject) - verb, either....or (subject)-verb.

12) Try to learn all the synthesis structures....of course it is tough but I have started training u bit by bit a long time ago. Everyone should try to learn them, revise them all the time not just during exams. Though I DO NOT GUARANTEE that it will come out, it still has to be learnt. Know the common structures like "unless and despite". Be very careful with direct speech. Highlight the words which tells u whether it is the present or past tense. If it is present, change to past. If it is the past tense, change to Perfect tense (eg is to was, went to had gone). Refer to all your previous corrections.

13) For comprehension, please highlight the key words in the questions and write down what is required in that question. I expect to see 6A pupils doing that in the prelims.

14) For comprehension cloze, please read through the whole text first before deciding on the word. Sometimes the answer is in the text itself.

Last but not least, BEST OF LUCK TO

ONE & ALL....put

in your BEST EFFORT....U know what

to do if you have

any questions...:D
